Fifth CNA win for Western Suburbs Weekly
THE Western Suburbs Weekly has been crowned Best Newspaper at the Community Newspapers of Australia awards for the fifth consecutive year.
The Community Newspaper Group publication was announced winner of the southern division awards in the 30,0001-50,000 circulation category in Melbourne on Friday night.
The national winners will be announced tonight, with the newspaper vying for a fourth consecutive national prize.
Editor Denise Cahill said the strong teamwork between the editorial and sales departments created and continued the winning formula.
“More than ever our editorial and sales teams are working together in our western suburbs community to get the best results for readers and advertisers,” Ms Cahill said.
“The awards are a credit to the entire team from journalists, sub editors and sales reps to photographers and designers.
“There’s a real buzz at the paper at the moment as everyone relishes the competition and challenge of combining print and digital media.”
Western Suburbs Weekly photographer Andrew Ritchie received two Highly Commended accolades at the Pacific Area Newspaper Publishers' Association (PANPA) Newspaper of the Year awards in Sydney on Friday night.
Ritchie’s work titled Native American and a photo from this year’s Hopman Cup caught the judges’ eyes in the features and lifestyle, and sport categories.
Community Newspaper Group southern suburbs photographer Jon Hewson won the portrait category at PANPA and took out the news and sport categories at the Community Newspapers of Australia awards in Melbourne.
The company’s trades and services website LookLocalWA.com.au also collected a gong at PANPA’s Advertising and Marketing Awards for Trade Campaign of the Year.
