Ricey not so dicey

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Town Talk -

THE Rottnest Island Authority (RIA) has improved access to Ricey Beach.

Visitors previously had to navigate a dangerous informal path to the beach, named because the sand is like rice.

RIA Parks and Services manager Clint Hull said the aim of the new ramp and formal access was to address visitor restriction issues and provide access for everyone, including those in wheelchairs.

“It used to be really dangerous to get down here,” Mr Hull said. “It’s really popular for fishing.” The ramp is made from recycled materials and will last for at least 35 years. The RIA, which funded the $115,000 project, also installed a new picnic table and benches at the site.
