Resident avoid road closure
CLAREMONT residents have successfully argued to keep open sometimes congested Cliff and Brae roads near Methodist Ladies College and Christ Church Grammar School.
The council had proposed the streets’ permanent closure, so second public comment and planning periods would not be needed if an initial six-month trial was successful.
However, Cliff Road resident Vandra Lee said buying a house next to the schools and not expecting congestion twice a day was like “buying land next to an airport and then complaining about aircraft noise”.
Ms Lee said there could be a speed limit in school hours.
Mayor Jock Barker said the council had discussed the prospect of a restriction with Cottesloe MLA Colin Barnett, before councillors voted unanimously not to partially close the roads.
