Haynes opposes aquatic centre funds bid

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Street Watch -

CLAREMONT councillor Bruce Haynes did not support his council’s bid for $1.9 million State Government grants for the $8.5 million redevelopment of the Claremont Aquatic Centre at the meeting last week.

Cr Haynes said the council could have to redesign the centre’s improvements if the application was only partially successful for a Department of Sport and Recreation grant.

Claremont will contribute $2.65 million to the redevelopment, in addition to seeking a $4 million loan and the grant.

Cr Paul Kelly said all councillors should vote for the grant application because that would get greater government support, but Cr Haynes remained the only opponent among the nine councillors.
