Scones set to steal the Show
JAYNE Kay is hoping she will have the winning edge for the fourth year in a row, when she enters her scones in the 2016 Perth Royal Show Cookery Competition.
The 12-year-old found her winning recipe when she started cooking with her grandma four years ago. She said their scone recipe was light and fluffy.
“I love cooking the scones and my grandma talks me through it while I make them,” she said. “The secret to the scones being so light and fluffy is that we melt the butter instead of mixing it in.”
Jayne’s recipe has not only won the junior category for the past three years, but also the open category.
“I will cook three batches of 12 scones, to choose the best six to present to judges,” she said. “The scones will go on a paper plate with other contestants, so the judges don’t know who they belong too.”
