Young builder makes his mark in custom homes
THE last few years have been very busy for Ray Kershaw, founder and director of Mondo Exclusive Homes.
Starting work as a carpenter, becoming a builder quickly became his focus.
“I saw that I could turn my practical on-site skills and my organised and systemised nature into a good building company,” Mr Kershaw said.
He got his builder’s licence at 25 and opened Mondo Exclusive Homes in 2010.
“We started off with just myself as the sole employee and completed one to three jobs per year,” Mr Kershaw said.
“Now we have four staff and complete eight to 12 homes a year.”
They have won a number of awards over the years, including the Master Builders Association national Young Builder of the Year in 2015.
“Winning the Young Builder of the Year award is one of our biggest highlights,” Mr Kershaw said.
“It doesn’t focus on one particular job, it encompasses the company’s growth, what we do in the community and also what we put back into the industry.”
The company has experience dealing with complex building sites and undertake a lot of work involving demolishing existing properties and building new homes.
“We focus on a broad market and can tailor our product to suit most people’s budgets and design requirements, but clients who come to us are looking for something custom with a high emphasis on quality,” Mr Kershaw said.
Mondo Exclusive Homes have recently opened a display home in Swanbourne and are set to open a second in Sorrento later this year.
“We currently do a bit of work in the Claremont, Churchlands and Swanbourne areas and have found that to be a good fit for us as a company,” Mr Kershaw said.
“Lots of people love the area and don’t want to leave, so demolishing and re-building has been a big thing.
“Lots of our clients have also owned larger blocks in these areas for some time and are now looking to unlock the block’s potential and sub-divide to enable them to downsize and also have an investment property.”
The display home is priced from $420,000 and Mr Kershaw said it would suit a wide variety of consumers.
“Having a master bedroom and ensuite on the ground floor with the remaining bedrooms and activity area upstairs could potentially suit a young professional couple, a small family looking to get a starter home in an area or even a downsizer looking for something to lock and leave,” he said.
The home at 8 Lynton Street, Swanbourne is open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays from 1pm-3pm until October 2.
