City to hold a special election

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Street Watch - Lisa Thomas

THE City of Subiaco will hold an extraordinary election in December because of the City of Perth Act.

Councillors voted 9-3 in favour of the election, which will fill the south ward vacancy.

The City is also seeking feedback on a ward review that will consider the number of councillors needed.

City of Subiaco chief executive Don Burnett said the extraordinary election was a requirement of the WA Electoral Commission.

“Recent changes to council were a result of the City of Perth Act 2016, with one south ward councillor ineligible to sit on council under the Local Government Act 1995,” he said.

The council will hold an extraordinary election on December 9.
