Enjoy the Rotto Cup
THE team at Hotel Rottnest wants to bring the Melbourne Cup to Rottnest Island this year.
Executive chef Ben Boisdevesy said it would be Melbourne Cup “plus the view”.
Mr Boisdevesy said being French and living in the UK for many years meant he did not get to experience the hype of the Melbourne Cup until he moved to Rottnest three years ago.
“We’re trying to push the event further with a new menu every year and bring people to Rottnest for the day,” he said.
Mr Boisdevesy’s friend from the UK was working as the general manager of Hotel Rottnest when he convinced the chef to work there for the summer season.
“Next thing I know it’s been three years,” he said. “It’s a hard place to leave.” Hotel Rottnest events manager Chris Monk, who is well aware of the hype surrounding “the race that stops a nation” having lived in Melbourne, said this year punters would get live music, best dressed prizes and outdoor games.
Mr Monk said guests would also receive champagne on arrival courtesy of sponsors Mumm.
