THE Town of Claremont has approved the Lake Claremont Management Plan 2016-21 to go out for public consultation.

The plan evolved after community engagement changed the focus of management from simply conserving and protecting the lake and bushland, to the management of cultural, social, recreational, sporting and environmental values of a mixed-use public open space.

Councillors approved the plan unanimously at a meeting on Tuesday night .

Cr Bruce Haynes said he was pleased to release the management plan for public consultation.

“The document is a massive improvement and is fit to go out for public consultation,” he said.

Cr Peter Browne congratulated Cr Haynes and the Lake Claremont committee for their hard work.

“It’s an outstanding document,” he said.

“I do think there is a need for greater balance of recreation and environmental factors.”
