Heating up for Harding
CHRISTIAN Harding (16) returned from two successful ITF junior championships in Indonesia ahead of his debut with Mosman Park Tennis Club last month.
The Christ Church Grammar School Year 11 student was knocked out by the number one seed in round 16 of the singles in Jakarta and teamed up with fellow Australian Tom Hann in the doubles.
In Surabaya, Harding made the quarterfinals in the singles and doubles teaming up with Ryoma Matsushita, who is the number one age player in Japan.
Harding said the hot and oppressive playing conditions were a dramatic change from Perth.
“It was a great experience to understand the pressures of touring, match preparation, importance of hydration and the intensity of international competition,” he said.
Harding will play pennants for Mosman Park this season alongside Matt Ebden and is working towards securing a tennis scholarship in the US in 2018 as well as sponsorship.
“The immediate focus is on fitness, securing sponsors, playing the Australian summer tournaments and helping Christ Church Grammar win the Corr Cup PSA tennis for the third year straight,” he said.
CCGS will contest the Corr Cup against Trinity, Scotch and Aquinas colleges early next year.
