Stu­dent’s Jour­ney wins best film prize

PERTH Modern School stu­dent Rad­heya Je­gath­eva has beaten an Academy Award­win­ning di­rec­tor to win the Over­all Best Film prize at the Port Shorts Film fes­ti­val in Queens­land.

The 17-year-old’s film Jour­ney was de­scribed as “pol­ished” and “high qual­ity” by judges.

Rad­heya, who based his film on a story he wrote in 2014, was against Walt Dis­ney An­i­ma­tion Stu­dios di­rec­tor Pa­trick Os­borne from the US.

Judges in­cluded Aus­tralian ac­tor Stephen Curry, Wolf Creek and Rogue ex­ec­u­tive pro­ducer Matt Hearn and Aus­tralian Film Industry Awards-nom­i­nated screen­writer Kier Shorey (Blurred).
