Teen snap­per very Vig­i­lant

SU­BI­ACO Li­brary will dis­play work from pho­tog­ra­phers around WA in the 2016 Pho­to­graphic Awards fi­nal­ist ex­hi­bi­tion this month.

More than 72 pho­to­graphs were cho­sen from 260 en­tries in this year’s com­pe­ti­tion, with age prov­ing no bar­rier for 15-year-old Fi­o­line Oe­tomo, who took out the over­all prize with her im­age Vig­i­lant.

Shen­ton Col­lege stu­dent Abby Tomi­jos won the Su­bi­aco cat­e­gory with her en­try The Lens and Shen­ton Park lo­cal Sarah-Lee Sweeney took home the top prize for her beau­ti­ful nar­ra­tive im­age Red Dog, fea­tur­ing a bat­tered old ute and Red pa­tiently wait­ing for his master.

Su­bi­aco Mayor Heather Hen­der­son pre­sented the win­ning en­tries and said the awards con­tin­ued to at­tract high-qual­ity en­tries from pro­fes­sional and as­pir­ing pho­tog­ra­phers.

“I am once again amazed at the di­ver­sity of en­tries in this year’s com­pe­ti­tion, and I am par­tic­u­larly im­pressed with the abil­ity to cap­ture such beau­ti­ful pho­tos us­ing a mo­bile de­vice,” she said.

“The 2016 fi­nal­ist ex­hi­bi­tion is sim­ply ex­cep­tional and def­i­nitely worth a look. I would like to con­grat­u­late all win­ners and fi­nal­ists in this year’s com­pe­ti­tion and I en­cour­age ev­ery­one to visit Su­bi­aco Li­brary to view the ex­hi­bi­tion and vote for their favourite pho­to­graph in the cov­eted Peo­ple’s Choice Award.”
