Weekend strings attached
ADELAIDE-based Australian String Quartet will host its fifth Margaret River Weekend of Music on the weekend of April 21 to 23, 2017.
The ASQ will perform four concerts on a matched set of Guadagnini instruments which were handcrafted in Italy between 1743 and 1784 that are valued in excess of $6 million.
The Friday opening concert at the Vasse Felix Winery Art Gallery is preceded by a relaxed wine tasting and followed by an exclusive dinner in the winery restaurant.
Saturday sees a mid-morning cellar concert before a picnic lunch in the grounds of McHenry Hohnen that encapsulates the Margaret River ambience within its tree-surrounded vineyards.
The Saturday evening concert and Gala Dinner are at the ASQ’s national wine sponsor’s home at Cape Dutch-style Voyager Estate with magnificent grounds and vast cellars.
Guests will gather at the Cullen winery on Sunday at 11am for the weekend finale, a concert in the barrel room and the farewell luncheon in the winery’s restaurant.
It is an added bonus that all three of the winery restaurants involved have been brilliantly reviewed by critics and consumers alike.
The wines at each of the four host wineries have never been better.
Some of Voyager Estate’s growing list of young chardonnays and cabernets are like their grounds and architecture, well worth seeing, and at Cullen, Vanya Cullen is one of a handful of Australia’s finest winemakers.
Her 2012 Vanya is Australia’s highest ranked cabernet ever on Robert Parker’s international wine website.
The ASQ offers several concert and meal packages online at www.asq.com.au.
Prices start from the Vasse Felix Friday evening welcome drinks and concert for $100.
