SHARK PROTECTION DEVICE TRIAL

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

SWIMMERS at City Beach will be protected by two Clever Buoy shark detection devices anchored 300m offshore in a three-month, $500,000 trial. Launching the trial on Sunday, Fisheries Minister Joe Francis said City Beach’s two groynes provided an ideal site. The solar-powered buoys use sonar and shark identification software to alert lifesavers to the presence of a shark, allowing swimmers to be evacuated.
