Paddling classes in the bay
YOB Australia paddleboard school has Peppermint Grove Council approval to conduct classes in Freshwater Bay and use the foreshore reserve at Peppermint Grove.
“This application does not propose weekend use and it’s seen as not being detrimental to the use of this reserve by the general public,” development services manager Michael Whitbread said in a report at December’s meeting.
The council had previous concerns about car bays being used and crowding by other paddleboard school operators, all three of which have not applied for new year-long permits from the State Government since the first was issued in 2014.
Councillors were concerned about Yob’s different start times for its hour-long classes in its application.
President Rachel Thomas asked for the times to be clarified.
The Swan River Trust will make a decision on Yob’s final permit, which can be revoked if there are any verifiable complaints, and the council has asked that any permission does not allow foreshore signs, advertising or gazebos on the foreshore, and that the school only operates on its requested times and days.
