Snapper hunts down top prize

Western Suburbs Weekly - - News -

A SPONTANEOUS snap of a Rottnest Island nankeen kestrel coming in to land after catching a praying mantis has won Victorian photographer Kyle Behrend a share in $5000.

Travelling across the country looking for the perfect nature snaps, Mr Behrend’s The Hunt won The Nature Conservancy Australia’s wildlife category in its annual photography competition.

He said he was thrilled to win the award, especially as he was an amateur photographer.

“Photography has always been a passion of mine and I’ve loved the chance to showcase what I can do,” he said.

One of the three judges, Michael Snedic, said they were blown away by the entry.

“Kyle demonstrated the skill of a far more experienced photographer. The Hunt proves what an incredible eye he has for photography,” Mr Snedic said.

“It was a special moment captured perfectly – great composition, timing and exposure. Absolutely brilliant.”
