Reduce fuel loads

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Western Opinion -

WITH bush and urban fire season upon us, it is disturbing to see so much wild grass inside and outside of properties throughout metropolitan Perth.

While rural and regional people habitually install firebreaks and reduce fuel loads annually, there appears to be an ambivalence and abdication of responsibility for fire minimisation measures among urban folk.

Seemingly little can be done to control idiotic 'fire bug' behaviour, but we can control what happens on our properties, whether owned or rented.

So let's give ourselves and our communities the best present of all – a reduction of fuel loads in readiness for the hot months ahead. Vincent Cusack,

Kingsley.
