Accused’s court date
A KEWDALE man (48) alleged to be the Claremont serial killer of 1996-1997 will next appear at Supreme Court Gardens Magistrates Court to face two charges of wilful murder and two of sexual assault on January 25.
Last week, police seized and examined a VS-series Holden Commodore that the former Telstra worker allegedly used before the bodies of Ciara Glennon (27) and Jane Rimmer (23) were found after they disappeared from Claremont, while an investigation into the 1996 disappearance of Sarah Spiers (18) continues.
The Commodore was a Telstra fleet car in the mid-1990s before the vehicle entered the private market.
The man had been a Telstra worker for almost 30 years. He has also been charged with the rape of a 17-year-old Claremont girl at Karrakatta Cemetery in 1995 and the sexual assault of an 18-year-old Huntingdale woman in her home in 1988.
A stolen kimono dropped at the 1988 crime scene and recently reexamined using modern DNA tests allegedly had DNA from Ms Glennon and the Karrakatta rape victim, and upholstery fibres from the same model of car allegedly match those found on Ms Rimmer’s body.
There have been subsequent calls to again look at the disappearance in 1988 of Fremantle woman Julie Cutler (22), whose car was dumped off Cottesloe Groyne, and death of Victoria Park woman Kerry Turner (18), whose body was found dumped near Canning Dam in 1991.
