Ebden optimistic about year ahead
AUSTRALIAN Open hopeful and Wembley Downs Tennis Club life member Matt Ebden was a hitting partner for world number three Roger Federer during last week’s Hopman Cup.
The 29-year-old, who is gearing up for the Australian Open in Melbourne from January 16, said he had a few things in common with Federer.
Ebden said they had both spent the past six months on the sideline because of a knee injury.
“We’re both glad 2016 is behind us and 2017 is here,” he said.
“I’ve hit with him before because we’ve played in the same tournaments. “I try to learn from every hit I have. “It’s been good for my movement after the knee injury.
“I’m moving well around the court, so that gives me hope and confidence going in to the Australian Open.”
Ebden is registered to play for Mosman Park Tennis Club in the 2016-17 pennants season, but the club is yet to come to an agreement with his manager.
He said there was still a chance he would play for the club this season.
