Fastest female third overall
BRADLEY Smith (26) won the 2017 Swim Thru Perth. He completed the 5km in one hour, six minutes and 16 seconds, just pipping 43-year-old Tim Hewitt.
Third place overall and fastest female was Jaime Bowler (35) who finished in 1.06.38, only 22 seconds behind Smith and just ahead of third-placed male, Paul Blackbeard (58).
Second and third place in the overall female category were Rebekah Weller (22) in 1.06.44 and Kate Shryock (28) in 1.18.41.
Last month’s event attracted a record 315 swimmers for its 5km, 2.5km, 1.25km and 250m Try It events. In rough and windy conditions, swimmers battled it out on the Swan River on a rectangular lap course, starting and finishing at Matilda Bay.
Emily Holland (12) won the Ron Grannery Trophy for the youngest swimmer in the 5km swim finishing in 1.26.44.
The new 250m event aimed at children and swimmers with disabilities. Rahul Jegatheva (15) and Tahlia Jensen (17) won the male and female 2.5km events and the 1.25km winners were Mark Lori (17) and Emily Randall (34).
