Fastest fe­male third over­all

BRADLEY Smith (26) won the 2017 Swim Thru Perth. He com­pleted the 5km in one hour, six min­utes and 16 sec­onds, just pip­ping 43-year-old Tim He­witt.

Third place over­all and fastest fe­male was Jaime Bowler (35) who fin­ished in 1.06.38, only 22 sec­onds be­hind Smith and just ahead of third-placed male, Paul Black­beard (58).

Sec­ond and third place in the over­all fe­male cat­e­gory were Re­bekah Weller (22) in 1.06.44 and Kate Shry­ock (28) in 1.18.41.

Last month’s event at­tracted a record 315 swim­mers for its 5km, 2.5km, 1.25km and 250m Try It events. In rough and windy con­di­tions, swim­mers bat­tled it out on the Swan River on a rec­tan­gu­lar lap course, start­ing and fin­ish­ing at Matilda Bay.

Emily Hol­land (12) won the Ron Gran­nery Tro­phy for the youngest swim­mer in the 5km swim fin­ish­ing in 1.26.44.

The new 250m event aimed at chil­dren and swim­mers with dis­abil­i­ties. Rahul Je­gath­eva (15) and Tahlia Jensen (17) won the male and fe­male 2.5km events and the 1.25km win­ners were Mark Lori (17) and Emily Ran­dall (34).
