THE City of Nedlands and the Town of Cambridge have been awarded a Road Rehabilitation Grant for $580,000 from the Metropolitan Regional Road Group to upgrade the intersection of Brockway Road, Brookdale Street and Underwood Avenue.

The proposed design was intended to increase safety, reduce congestion and reduce the overall number of and severity of crashes.

Pedestrian and cyclist facilities would also be improved, along with improving visibility from an upgrade to the street lighting and LED technology upgrade of the traffic signals.

Nedlands Mayor Max Hipkins said he welcomed the recent news from Main Roads WA that the grant for the joint project had been successful.

“Both the Town of Cambridge and the City of Nedlands are pleased that the safety issues at this intersection have been recognised by Main Roads WA and the funding for the upgrade to the intersection goes a long way to help enhance and improve road safety within the City,” Mr Hipkins said.

Cambridge Mayor Keri Shannon said Nedlands’ work was endorsed.

“As a result, our community will soon enjoy safety upgrades for pedestrians and road users at this busy intersection,” Ms Shannon said.
