Rain holds off matches

AF­TER heavy rain last week, only parts of round 11 of the WA State Ten­nis Men’s League was com­pleted, with the much-an­tic­i­pated Kings Park ver­sus Cottes­loe match on grass can­celled.

In other matches, Pep­per­mint Grove lost 1-5 away on hard­court at Mt Law­ley, with Pep­per­mint Grove’s num­ber one Troy Har­g­reaves go­ing down to Alex Downey 4-6 1-6.

Mt Law­ley de­liv­ered a clean sweep in the sin­gles, with Rhys Mcdougall too good for Chris Moore, Rafe Bonini beat­ing Ryan God­win and Tim Gray de­feat­ing Pep­per­mint Grove’s Tom Moore.

Pep­per­mint Grove sal­vaged some pride with Har­g­reaves and Chris Moore com­bin­ing to win an en­ter­tain­ing dou­bles in a third set tiebreak against Mcdougall and Rob Firns.

The re­turn of Bry­dan Klein (world num­ber 282) and Bren­ton Ba­con pow­ered up Mos­man Park to cause an up­set over Hens­man Park 4-2.

Klein won 6-1 6-4 over Zach Itzstein, while Ba­con won in the third af­ter his se­lec­tion last week in the un­der-18 Pizzey Cup team.

Gen Naraya made an im­pres­sive State Ten­nis League de­but at num­ber four for Mos­man Park, win­ning 5-7 6-4 6-4 against Hens­man Park’s James Stut­tard.

Klein and Ba­con com­bined to se­cure the win in a ter­rific 1-6 6-3 10-4 dou­bles against Rhys John­ston and Itzstein.

John­ston played the dou­bles af­ter win­ning the Sil­ver Pro AMT sin­gles at the State Ten­nis Cen­tre ear­lier in the day.

Dalkeith con­tin­ued its re­cent win­ning form over Hig­gins Park with a con­vinc­ing 5-1 win.

Dalkeith’s Josiah Tyson was pro­moted to num­ber one beat­ing Josh Spring 6-4 6-3 and team­mates Ben Web­ster and Dy­lan Mc­closkey also won their sin­gles.

Dalkeith won both dou­bles matches.

In the Women’s League, Cottes­loe beat Hens­man 4-2 with Perth’s top 18-year-old Mad­di­son Inglis beat­ing Na­dia Ra­jan 6-4 6-2 and wins by Cottes­loe’s Teiwa Casey over Skye Royal and Lexie Weir over Hay­ley Bur­ton had Cott lead­ing a 3-1 lead af­ter the sin­gles.

Brenda Plint teamed with Casey to win a tight dou­bles 5-7 6-3 10-7 to se­cure the win for Cottes­loe.

Pep­per­mint Grove’s Troy Har­g­reaves gets air­borne with Chris Moore.
