Two-wheel sister act
Wembley Downs sisters Astrid and Holly Wilson will be among the youngest competitors taking part in the X Trial Australia Championship at HBF Stadium on Saturday. The young riders will take part in a demonstration before the nation’s best competitors take to the floor to showcase their skills.
Nine-year-old Holly Wilson and her six-year-old sister Astrid received the best presents they could have imagined for Christmas.
The Wembley Downs girls were given Oset Electric Trials bikes from Father Christmas, which they will use in the Oset demonstration at the X Trial Australia Championships at HBF Stadium on Saturday. Now in its third year, the event features gravity-defying trial riding and extreme displays of super-human capabilities.
State champion and event organiser Neil Price said the Championship was a fantastic family event that allowed people of all ages to experience trials bike riding.
“Trials bike riding is an extreme sport that is growing in popularity year by year,” Mr Price said.
“An event like this is an opportunity to bring the sport to an even broader audience.
“The Championship is about more than just the sport – it’s a terrific, inexpensive and entertaining day out for the whole family with something for everyone.”
Using their own initiative, the Wilson sisters saw the event as an opportunity to raise money for Kapinara Primary School, where they attend.
For each adult ticket sold using the code word ‘kapinara’, $5 will be donated to the City Beach school’s P&C committee, and $3 for every child’s ticket sold.
Mr Price said that any charity or group could reap the benefits of setting up their own code word to help raise funds for their own special cause.
“Holly and Astrid have been vocal in promoting the event they love amongst their peers and assisting their school in raising funds that will be of benefit to their school mates and teachers,” he said.
“We love to see this kind of enthusiasm in our young riders. As members of both the AJS Motorcycle Club and Pathfinders Trials Motorcycle Club, they are the future of this sport.”
