Wedded to fashion life

TAKING inspiration from her Italian and Croatian heritage and love of European architecture, former Iona Presentation College student Sophia Lenzo is moving her love of fashion to the next level.
The 24-year-old, who launched her first collection earlier this year, is developing a couture collection and establishing SOFIA the Label.
Despite a family history in the industry, Lenzo said it was her sister’s wedding late last year where the push to start her label really began.
“In the lead-up to my older sister's wedding, I had the opportunity to get intimately involved in all aspects of gown designs, from the bride and bridesmaids, to the mother of the bride and grandmother of the bride,” she said.
“This really inspired me and gave me the confidence to go out on my own.
“The subsequent trip to Europe and first-hand exposure to the passion that drives many of the designers and small-mid scale labels in an often uneasy economic climate was a major catalyst in sparking the desire and passion to create a label of my own.”
Wanting to start a label that would not only make women look and feel fantastic but also project a unique element of desire, Lenzo set about creating the first collection.
Sophia Lenzo: This is what I live, breathe and love and I am looking forward to the challenges that lie ahead.” She will launch her label later this year.
