Spacious, secure and street-smart
Haven from the world.
THIS apartment is number eight – a lucky number for many, including owner Gayna Barnett who bought it while her husband was away on business.
“He didn't know what to expect when he first saw it,” she said.
“Luckily for me he was thrilled to bits.” Mrs Barnett said when she first saw the home, there were so many things she found attractive, especially the size and layout.
“It was huge, more like a house than an apartment,” she said.
“As we both work from home, having two separate office areas was just what we needed.
“And being an end apartment also means we're not surrounded by common walls.”
Mr and Mrs Barnett have added to the home's appeal, giving it an extensive renovation.
As well as installing new carpets, window treatments and wall coverings, they transformed the turret from an empty space into an intimate home theatre, renovated the bathrooms and rebuilt the massive indoor/outdoor courtyard.the alfresco area is now a protected outdoor room with barbecue, pond, hand-built stackstone wall, soaring cedar roof and Millboard composite decking.
While the home is in a convenient, urban location, it is in a secure complex of 12 and offers a peaceful haven from a busy world.
Mrs Barnett said she loved the lounge in summer, looking out over the courtyard into the lush green canopy of street trees.
“It's like being in a treehouse,” she said. “When the leaves fall off in the winter, it changes to a very cosy space with the gas fire going.”
For another outlook, the turret offers 360 degree views over Subiaco.
Built over three levels, the home has been finished to a high standard and has open-plan living and dining areas, a wellappointed kitchen, theatre room, study, wine cellar, and under-stair workshop.
There are three spacious bedrooms; the master has walk-in and built-in robes and a spa ensuite. ■
