Western Suburbs Weekly - - - Warren Harding

NEEDING a win to hold its spot, Mosman Park Tennis Club locked down fourth spot with an emphatic 5-1 win over Mt Lawley in the men’s State League tennis competition that this year has showcased world-class players.

Cottesloe snuffed out Dalkeith’s hope of snatching fourth slot, with Andrew Roberts winning 6-0, 6-1 against Dylan Mccloskey.

Joel Pleydell had to fight 6-3, 2-6, 6-4 to beat a hard-hitting Ollie Henderson, and brother Mitch Pleydell had a straightsets win over Dalkeith’s Matt Rosso.

Kings Park will host Mosman Park on grass in the first semifinal.

Hensman Park showed finals form with a win over Kings Park 4-2 on the weekend and will host Cottesloe in the other semifinal.

In the women’s league, Alicia Molik lead a clean sweep on grass for Cottesloe against Higgins Park 6-0.

Molik, Australia’s Fed Cup captain, was all class as she dropped only two games for the day, winning her singles 61, 6-0 against Crystal Mildwaters and the doubles in straight sets playing with Teiwa Casey.

City Beach pushed Hensman Park to go down 2-4, with wins by the former’s Maddy Watson and Lara Vujasinovic in the singles, and Ali Connell and Hayley O’donnell closely lost their doubles 3-6 64 9-11 in the super tie-breaker.

In other matches, Blue Gum won the minor premiership, finishing top of the ladder with a 4-2 win over last year’s runners-up North Beach, and will host the first semifinal next week as they chase back-to-back premierships.
