New categories for Gold Plate
THE Catering Institute of Australia has added four new categories to the 51st Gold Plate Awards.
President Craig Joel said it was the biggest change to the awards in his 10 years as president.
“To make any change you need to do it with caution because the awards have been going for so long,” Mr Joel said.
“We have to take advice from the consumer and these changes are consumer-driven.”
Tapas have replaced the Small Bar award in a bid to attract more entrants.
Mr Joel said entrants wanted to be known as a small bar with great food rather than just a small bar.
There is also a new Mexican cuisine category.
“Mexican restaurants found it difficult to go up against other cuisine styles previously; they didn’t really fit in to a category,” Mr Joel said.
