FOLLOW THE RULES
COTTESLOE Council will follow an eastern states’ trend and install signs at popular surf breaks informing the growing numbers of wave riders of rules on the waves. At this month’s meeting, a staff report said the Cottesloe Longboard Club requested signs at the Isolated and Cove surf breaks because of increased numbers of surfers breaking the rules, potentially causing arguments and breaches of safety.
The club feared some of the incidents could cause injuries and suggested signs listing surfing rules at the end of beach paths, to which it would donate $500. Councillors agreed to spend $3000 on signs at the suggested locations, in addition to nearby Dutch Inn which is popular with stand-up paddle-boarders.
