OVER a life­time, you wit­ness many con­flicts and tragedies.

It has not al­ways been a down­side, as we have grown close to ma­jor for­mer en­e­mies such as Ger­many and Ja­pan.

What is very dis­turb­ing now in 2017 is to see the re­vival of ha­tred once again from North Korea.

The last time we were com­mit­ted to Korea was in the 1950s.

What is hap­pen­ing in Korea now is as scary as when Khrushchev and Kennedy had a huge stand-off over Cuba.

Luck­ily, that was set­tled.

The leader of North Korea is men­tally un­sta­ble and China may be our only way out.

Trump has shown he will not back down, so the world bet­ter start speak­ing out now if we want to see 2018. CHARLIE GIB­SON, Fal­con.
