Ringing the bell for St Hilda’s annual Bazaar

Western Suburbs Weekly - - From The Archives -

WITH a new location and raft of new stalls, the St Hilda’s Old Scholars Association’s annual Bazaar is revamped and ready to go.

In a nod to years gone past, the Bazaar has moved back to its traditional location at the senior school campus on Bay View Terrace, Mosman Park.

Old Scholars Association President Anu van Hattem said while the bazaar would keep its traditions alive, there were some new ideas.

“It’s a mix of new and old, so it will rekindle a lot of memories for our Old Scholars but it’s also lovely to see what’s new and some new faces,” she said.

The new location will bring an array of new features, such as bellringing from the chapel to mark the event’s opening, giant party games to entertain the kids and a new juice bar for the health-conscious.

The bazaar brings together a range of stallholders, from organic honey and oil to vintage clothing and exquisite fashion pieces.

Mrs van Hattem said the range of organic products on offer would appeal to foodies.

“It’s not the same when you buy it from a shop; you need to go to a bazaar or a market,” she said.

Old Scholar and stallholder Sarah Templeman said she was excited to come back to the school and be part of the community event.

Mrs Templeman runs the Sarah Templeman Gallery in Cottesloe, a boutique store with handpicked jewellery, fashion accessories and clothing.

She said the bazaar was a good opportunity for families to treat their mothers, given it was the day before Mother’s Day.

“A lot of mums don’t have the time to shop for themselves and a lot of mums don’t expect to be spoilt,” she said.

“It’s nice to have some fun accessories available that can surprise her.”

Mrs Templeman has imported jewellery exclusive to the bazaar, including costume jewellery, key chains and bag charms.

Entry to the Bazaar is gold coin donation and will be at the St Hilda’s Bay View Terrace campus on Saturday, May 13, 10am-3pm.
