The business of being Zampatti
CARLA Zampatti has collected an enviable list of achievements during her 52 years in the Australian fashion industry.
Having moved to WA from Italy in the 1950s, Zampatti began her label in 1965 before launching it nationally two years later.
Being quite the entrepreneur, Zampatti was made the first Qantas Bulletin Business Woman of the Year in the 1980s, while a partnership with Ford Australia made her the first fashion brand to design a car for women.
In the 1990s she was named fashion designer of the year by the Australian Fashion Industry before being awarded the Companion of the Order of Australia in 2009.
Her current collection sees velvet make a comeback in darker hues of black and navy, with tailored blazers and simple dresses.
“What a woman wears should express her individuality and her own style,” Zampatti said.
