CARLA Zam­patti has col­lected an en­vi­able list of achieve­ments dur­ing her 52 years in the Aus­tralian fash­ion in­dus­try.

Hav­ing moved to WA from Italy in the 1950s, Zam­patti be­gan her la­bel in 1965 be­fore launch­ing it na­tion­ally two years later.

Be­ing quite the entrepreneur, Zam­patti was made the first Qan­tas Bulletin Busi­ness Woman of the Year in the 1980s, while a part­ner­ship with Ford Aus­tralia made her the first fash­ion brand to de­sign a car for women.

In the 1990s she was named fash­ion de­signer of the year by the Aus­tralian Fash­ion In­dus­try be­fore be­ing awarded the Com­pan­ion of the Or­der of Aus­tralia in 2009.

Her cur­rent col­lec­tion sees vel­vet make a come­back in darker hues of black and navy, with tai­lored blaz­ers and sim­ple dresses.

“What a woman wears should ex­press her in­di­vid­u­al­ity and her own style,” Zam­patti said.
