Plunkett home to raise funds for Royal Flying Doctor Service

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Coastal & Country -

A NEWLY built Busselton home is being sold to raise funds for the Royal Flying Doctor Service (RFDS).

It is the first time that a house has been built in the South-west to solely raise funds for the RFDS, which faces growing demand for both its aeromedical and primary healthcare services.

The impressive four-bedroom, two-bathroom home was donated and built by Plunkett Homes.

It has a chic beach house design that was inspired by the relaxed South-west lifestyle.

Plunkett South-west general manager Brian Garavanta said the home had been specially designed to allow for side access, enabling a boat or caravan to be parked.

“There’s also a front veranda with space for a couple of chairs, so you can take in the ambience of the man-made lake just down the road and watch people having fun with their model boats,” he said.

“It also includes a study, home theatre and a huge living and dining area.”

The home is on a 480sq m block, donated by Provence Estate.

The estate has more than 36ha of lakes, parklands, playgrounds and picnic areas, is minutes from the Busselton town centre and is close to some of the region’s great beaches, forests, vineyards and tourist attractions.

“The lucky owner of the charity home will have views to the lake and a future park, a beautiful setting well suited to a range of buyers including families and busy retirees,” Provence Estate manager Alan Abel said.

RFDS chief executive Grahame Marshall said they were grateful for the support of Plunkett Homes and Provence Estate.

“There is steady, continued demand for RFDS services, with those services currently being delivered at record levels, which means we need to purchase up to two new aircraft every year, to continue to be at the forefront of innovation in remote health care delivery and develop innovative solutions,” he said.

“There were nearly 900 patient retrievals in the Southwest during the past 12 months, an average of 17 per week, and we must continue to anticipate and better meet the needs of all West Australians who require the services of the RFDS.”

The home on Gigondas Street, Yalyalup, is open for viewing on Saturdays and Sundays from 1-5pm.
