BUILD it and they will come is the adage.

And so it applies to the missing link in the Perth to Fremantle bicycle path that now finishes at Grant Street.

While the new State Government may have some nerves about spending in an area not known for supporting it, what is clear is that cyclists are voters of all persuasions.

The very lack of an effective route should be something the Government could crow about finishing. It’s a potentially important route for tourists who are supposed to be the state’s economic saviours and truckies could be roped in to rejoicing about not having cyclists alongside their behemoths at Eric Street bridge.

However, the real nut to crack is the path’s Cottesloe-north Fremantle link. It’s time decision-makers got on their bikes and solved that before a commuting or school student cyclist gets injured or killed on Curtin Avenue or Port Beach Road.
