Abel gives back through milestone birthday adventure

A CONVERSATION with a work colleague prompted Abel Property chief executive Adrian Abel to use his 50th birthday celebrations to raise money for a charity called Platypus.

Founded by Bob Greer, the organisation supports young Vietnamese people who are unable to afford formal education, helping to raise their standards of living and that of their families.

Key fundraisers for the charity are motorcycle tours around Vietnam and Mr Abel decided his 50th birthday was a prime opportunity to combine his love of riding and passion for social justice.

Along with his son, son-in-law, brother, uncle and four good friends, he embarked on a 10-day tour of northern Vietnam earlier this month, riding thousands of kilometres from Hanoi to Ha Long Bay. “It was an amazing experience,” he said. “We were able to see first-hand the work of Platypus and other charities in the region.

“Being able to spend quality time with my family in an amazing country, but also to be part of a group helping to raise awareness of the work of this charity, was the perfect way to celebrate a milestone birthday.”
