Life­savers hon­oured

CITY of Perth, Floreat, Cottes­loe and North Cottes­loe surf life­sav­ing club mem­bers were awarded at the Surf Life Sav­ing WA (SLSWA) Awards of Ex­cel­lence at Crown Perth last Satur­day.

“It is about cel­e­brat­ing all the vol­un­teers who are the lifeblood of this great move­ment,” SLSWA pres­i­dent Craig Smith-gan­der said.

Dur­ing 2016-17, surf life­savers spent more than 108,800 hours pa­trolling, con­ducted 580 res­cues and had 1467 first aid in­ci­dents.

City Beach-based City of Perth SLSC mem­bers Brit­tany Houghton, Gabrielle Mur­phy, Holly Noack and Alysse Prid­dis were the team of the year for their ef­forts in open fe­male beach re­lay.

Young achiever of the year was Floreat SLSC’S Sam Ran­son, Mar­garet Bond from Cottes­loe SLSC was the ad­min­is­tra­tor of the year, and North Cottes­loe SLSC was the pa­trol club of the year. Life­saver of the Year was Adam Hoes (25), of Man­durah SLSC, who has been at the club for 12 years and done more than 1800 pa­trol hours.
