Olympians tell story
FOUR WA Olympians visited John XXIII College to celebrate International Olympic Day on June 23.
London 2012 Olympian Jesse Phillips and 2016 Rio Olympians Natalie Burton, Amie Thompson and Danielle Kettlewell shared their Olympic journey and experiences with years 3 and 4 students at the Mt Claremont college.
Phillips, a sprint kayaker, told the students it was important they recognised their talents and pursued them.
“I really enjoy talking to kids, as they have their whole life ahead of them,” he said.
“Hopefully we can provide a spark of inspiration that helps them reach their goals.”
Burton, a basketball player, encouraged the children to persevere.
“Never give up,” she said.
“Keep training hard and never let anybody tell you that you aren’t good enough.”
The students were also given the chance to ask questions.
