Olympians tell story

FOUR WA Olympians vis­ited John XXIII Col­lege to cel­e­brate In­ter­na­tional Olympic Day on June 23.

Lon­don 2012 Olympian Jesse Phillips and 2016 Rio Olympians Natalie Burton, Amie Thomp­son and Danielle Ket­tlewell shared their Olympic jour­ney and ex­pe­ri­ences with years 3 and 4 stu­dents at the Mt Clare­mont col­lege.

Phillips, a sprint kayaker, told the stu­dents it was im­por­tant they recog­nised their talents and pur­sued them.

“I re­ally en­joy talk­ing to kids, as they have their whole life ahead of them,” he said.

“Hope­fully we can pro­vide a spark of in­spi­ra­tion that helps them reach their goals.”

Burton, a bas­ket­ball player, en­cour­aged the chil­dren to per­se­vere.

“Never give up,” she said.

“Keep train­ing hard and never let any­body tell you that you aren’t good enough.”

The stu­dents were also given the chance to ask ques­tions.
