Get­ting Mea­sure of Va­ri­ety event

MEA­SURE Bar chefs Kar­men Lu and Amanda Yong will join Ir­ish celebrity chef Colin Fass­nidge as part of a stel­lar line-up at this year’s Va­ri­ety of Chefs an­nual event on July 21.

Lu and Yong are among a who’s who of the Perth food in­dus­try, in­clud­ing Crown’s Sean Marco and Clarke’s of North Beach’s Stephen Clarke, to cook at the event, which fea­tures a spec­tac­u­lar six-course de­gus­ta­tion with som­me­lier-selected matched wines.

Pas­try chef Yong, pre­vi­ously of Wild­flower, teamed up with Lu, who re­cently opened her dessert bar in Mt Lawley and was on Masterchef last sea­son, and said she was de­lighted to be in­volved with the event.

“Va­ri­ety does great work in the com­mu­nity help­ing WA dis­ad­van­taged chil­dren, and this is an easy way to help them con­tinue their work and fundraise,” she said.

“As chefs we are al­ways busy with long hours of work. If I just had to take out some time to help peo­ple in need in a dif­fer­ent way, it’s for a good cause close to my heart.”

Yong and Lu will be in charge of the last course – dessert – and hope to make it a mem­o­rable one.

“Mea­sure is Perth’s first small bar to fo­cus on desserts,” Lu said.

“We of­fer beau­ti­fully plated desserts paired with a full bar menu, in­clud­ing finely crafted cock­tails.

“We are proud of the pre­ci­sion and at­ten­tion to de­tail re­quired ev­ery day in not only the food but the way we work.”

As well as Lu and Yong’s show­stop­ping desserts, guests will en­joy pre-din­ner drinks, oys­ter shuck­ing, fine wine, a Ther­momix cock­tail bar, en­ter­tain­ment and afundrais­ing auc­tion, as well as a chance to meet the chefs.

Funds raised from the night will help Va­ri­ety pro­vide prac­ti­cal equip­ment and ex­pe­ri­ences for WA chil­dren who are sick, dis­ad­van­taged or have spe­cial needs, em­pow­er­ing them to live, laugh and learn.
