Residents want an ocean pool
AN ocean pool has been voted a recreational ‘want’ by Town of Mosman Park residents.
A recent survey of residents found 68 per cent believed more recreation and social facilities were needed, with an ocean pool the top priority.
However, a large number of those wanting the pool believed the Town should support the development of one in Cottesloe.
The council is considering spending $25,000 on a bid for an ocean pool, with that funding to be looked at in the upcoming budget.
Improved cycle ways, a swimming pool, fitness equipment and an indoor recreation centre also scored highly among those surveyed.
The survey was part of a sport and recreation report Mosman Park council says could shape how facilities are upgraded and developed.
Highlighted in the Jim Powell and Associates-produced report was that the Town appeared “reasonably serviced” by current facilities, although not all sports were active in the area and a lack of facilities could be limiting choice.
“In terms of the sporting facilities, the major concern would be the condition of the facility located on Nash Field, and the Town will need to undertake a major renovation or redevelopment of a suitable facility to meet the community and resident clubs’ needs,” the report read.
Additions or redevelopment of the Mosman Park Bowling Club and Mosman Park Golf Club could also be on the cards, due to the age of their respective buildings.
Mosman Park Mayor Ron Norris said the plan was vital in determining what was needed and encouraged people to provide feedback.
“This draft plan enables us to understand all of the sporting and recreational opportunities available in the Town, the participation rates, key trends in terms of the use of our ocean and river, as well as our parks and reserves, so that we can make best use of Town resources to meet those needs, both now and into the future,” he said.
