Look back on Steph’s style

EAST Perth fashion designer Steph Audino was a volunteer at Styleaid before her creations appeared on the runway at the WA Aids Council fundraiser.

Reflecting on the history of Styleaid, which will celebrate its 20th and final milestone on August 4, Audino said she worked backstage with the committee before starting her label.

That, winning the 2013 Styleaid Creative Designer Award and seeing her collection on stage are special memories for her. Audino was two years into her label that focused on “ready to wear” garments when she won the coveted prize.

“It was an exciting moment as an emerging designer. I am so grateful to be doing what I love and it’s such an amazing feeling when my work is recognised by others,” she said.

Audino, who is inspired by travel, has used 180m of silk to create a skirt, which will be part of the creation she has especially made for Styleaid 2017.

The Steph Audino label has evolved from ready to wear to couture over the past four years.

“If you look at the pieces back then you will see that they are very youthful as I was only 20 when I started my label,” Audino said.

“My love has always been in couture and I feel my label made that transition once I was able to showcase my first wedding dress that I created for my sister-in-law.”
