Jump at chance to get on Hurdles
It’s like you’re in the tree tops. By NATALIE HORDOV
THE owners of this award-winning home love Floreat and were looking to build a new home in the area, so when the land sales came up in Perry Lakes they jumped at the opportunity.
They chose to work with Tony Tomizzi Builders.
“After three previous builds, which we enjoyed doing, this time around we wanted to work with an architect and builder who could meet our vision and work to a budget,” they said.
“Tony Tomizzi is meticulous with his work and nailed our brief, so much so that the home won a Master Builders award in 2016.”
The owners wanted a low-maintenance, practical retreat full of natural daylight, where every room had a view of the great outdoors.
They wanted large, free-flowing spaces, yet the two-storey home had to have a relaxed, homely feel.
“This was very important to us and we did clever things to make some spaces feel smaller, such as recessing the ceilings in the open-plan living areas,” they said.
“It’s a massive space but it still feels homely.”
The open-plan living area is on the ground floor and includes a spacious kitchen with Asko appliances, 5.5m bench and huge pantry.
The living area opens to an alfresco area, creating a huge space for entertaining, and the water-wise gardens.
“The landscaped gardens are a wonderful place to sit while relaxing with a book, coffee or glass of wine,” the owners said.
“They include three tiled or decked areas where we can follow the winter sun or seek shade in summer.”
The master bedroom is on this floor and has a walk-in robe and an ensuite with a bath, underfloor heating and a lovely garden view.
There is also a study/fourth bedroom and second bathroom.
The first floor includes two bedrooms that share a semi-ensuite bathroom, a separate toilet and a spacious living area that opens to a balcony.
“The upstairs is a great place to retreat to and the balcony looks out on to the native bush,” the owners said.
“The colours of the foliage change with the time of day and season and friends say they feel like we are in the tree tops, away from everything.”
The home is on a 514sq m block, at the entrance to the old Commonwealth Games stadium. ■ 4 3 2
