A passion for

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Fashion - Sarah Brookes

NEW York is a long way from home but Perth student Nakita Williams is ready for her first chance to tread the international runway when she heads to New York Fashion Week this month.

The invitation to the prestigious event comes after the beauty caught the eye of Fremantle fashion designer Azulant Akora at Kalgoorlie Fashion Week last month.

Williams said it was a dream come true.

“Walking in New York Fashion week is another career milestone for me,” she said.

“It's a hard industry to be in but I'm lucky that I have so many people helping me and guiding me through.

“What I love about the industry is experiencing how people work behind the scenes, how much effort they put in to make everything look nice on the runway. Of course, being just 15 years old and to get dressed in the designer clothes, plus hair and make-up done, is a dream come true for most girls.”

Williams said she had no illusions that the industry could be brutal.

“The fashion industry is constantly changing so if I'm given the opportunity, I always work to my best ability,” she said.

“But if I don't get chosen I won't feel upset because there'll always be another opportunity. I would like to stay in the industry after high school.”
