COTTESLOE Council is being sent back to cut grass at a kindergarten classroom after it shifted the cost of the maintenance to the pre-school, which now claims its struggling to pay for the mowing.

“The staff can nip across from Harvey Field and mow that tiny piece of lawn,” Cr Melissa Harkins said. Broome Street’s Seaview Kindergarten asked for financial assistance when it claimed it could not afford its annual $850 bill for mowing and $932 for water.

The financial hurdle appeared after a 2013 lease reversed a previous agreement that the council was responsible for maintenance and the kindergarten paid minimal rent.

It was agreed the council would be responsible for the kindergarten’s grass in a two-year trial.
