Cambridge Local Planning Strategy

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Front Page -

In the Town of Cambridge we will be looking at our core services and ensuring they are delivered in an efficient and well managed way. This applies particularly to planning. We will be progressing our local planning strategy in a way that will balance residential amenity and character with sustainable increases in density and development.

While this sounds simple, it is a wicked problem. Protecting local values and community identity as we plan for more infill requires a careful measured approach. We intend to drive a responsive and sympathetic built form which recognises local community values while incorporating infill changes.

In a broader context, we will be advocating the introduction of third party appeal rights to the State Administrative Tribunal as a means of ensuring local community values are given adequate weight and due consideration in Development Assessment Panel determinations. This will allow a balance to be found between density and progress while preserving each suburb’s character.
