Cinema owner bashed, robbed
HAVING intruders hold a knife to his throat and being bashed has traumatised Wembley 70year-old and Luna Cinemas owner Cyril Watson after his 15minute ordeal.
“I need some counselling, and I must as it keeps coming back to me; haunting me,” Mr Watson said.
About 6pm on December 1, Mr Watson, a diabetic whose condition restricts his movements, was having an afternoon nap and watching TV when he heard noises in his Lake Monger Drive home.
He phoned police immediately.
He said two darkskinned men stood over him near his bedroom while they screamed for money and threatened him with the knife.
“In the condition I’m in, that can give you a heart attack or a stroke,” Mr Watson said.
The threats culminated in several punches to his face, which cut his lip.
The intruders left after they realised they would get no more than about $40 in loose change offered by Mr Watson.
However, officers suspected the men’s crimes may have continued because barely five minutes later a 52-yearold neighbour was punched and had teeth knocked out when he was also assaulted by a dark-skinned man.
The victim also had his BMW stolen.
The vehicle was seen being driven at speed before it was found by police at a park on Gravity Street, Beckenham about 7pm that day.
Detective-constable Felicia Le Boydre said it was being investigated if the incidents were linked, and if the men in both incidents were together.
One man was described as about 187cm tall with a solid build and short, dark and cropped hair, who wore dark clothing.
Det-const Le Boydre said anyone near Lake Monger between 5 and 6.30pm on December 1 who may have seen the men or the BMW should call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
