Man charged with as­sault­ing po­lice­man

IT is al­leged a Su­bi­aco man (30) as­saulted a po­lice­man par­tially in­side his ac­cel­er­at­ing car af­ter he was found sus­pi­ciously dis­con­nect­ing a fuse box at a May Av­enue, Su­bi­aco, home about 11.45am last Wed­nes­day.

Po­lice said the man was with a woman, who sat in their nearby car, and he al­legedly be­came ag­gres­sive when two of­fi­cers walked to­wards both to make an ar­rest near the house.

The man got back into the car be­fore one of the of­fi­cers at­tempted to stop it leav­ing.

Po­lice will al­lege the of­fi­cer was as­saulted in the car be­fore it was stopped, af­ter which the man and woman were ar­rested.

The man was charged with mul­ti­ple counts of as­sault­ing and ob­struct­ing public of­fi­cers, reck­less driv­ing, fail­ing to stop, no driver’s li­cence, pos­ses­sion of drug para­pher­na­lia and a pro­hib­ited weapon, and an act caus­ing bod­ily harm.

He was re­manded in cus­tody to reap­pear at Perth Mag­is­trates Court on April 10.

The woman had not been charged at the time of go­ing to print.
