Councils agree on depot sharing
MOSMAN Park and Cottesloe councils have agreed to set about sharing the riverside suburb’s Mccabe Street depot likely later this year.
“Sharing a depot will be costeffective for both councils,” Mosman Park Mayor Brett Pollock said.
Anticipated savings include buying one piece of equipment for both councils’ use and not having to hire some outside services.
However, the gardening and maintenance duties of 12 outdoor staff from Mosman Park and 18 from Cottesloe will remain separate across the neighbouring local governments.
At meetings last month, councillors from both councils gave their nods to a heads of agreement that could finalise Cottesloe using about 380sq m of the Mosman Park depot for a new shed and office donga for the operators of its mowers, trucks and other equipment.
It has cost Cottesloe $912,000 to keep the staff at a Fremantle compound since it sold its former Nailsworth Street depot for $9.1 million in 2013.
A report at the Town’s March meeting estimated the 380sq m would cost about $76,940 to rent each year, and require $641,250 saved since the sale to upgrade the new site.
The report said the annual cost during any 21-year lease could be about $107,475, compared with the $166,500 budgeted for the Fremantle compound in 2017-18.
Mr Pollock and Cottesloe Mayor Phil Angers said the final rent and costs were still to be discussed, neighbours had to be consulted and each council consider any final agreement, before the depot could be shared by the end of this year.
The councils already jointly run The Grove library and community centre, coastal care services, Shine aged care and Anzac Day celebrations.
