Cook with Gas
FOODIES can indulge in the taste of the Gascoyne, with the Gascoyne Food Council showcasing their fresh farm-direct produce at Yagan Square from Sunday as part of the Taste of WA event.
Hosted by Buy West Eat Best, the program will kick off on Sunday from 11am to 1pm and be emceed by WA Food Ambassador Don Hancey, who will feature a sampling menu including goat ragu, Sweeter Banana bread, asparagus and capsicum frittata and warming pumpkin and turmeric soup.
The event is one of a series put together to build awareness of WA producers and remind consumers to support and buy local whenever possible and promote regional destinations, with support from the program’s hospitality providers.
Hancey said all dishes he was cooking would be loaded with fresh Gascoyne produce.
“It is always a pleasure to work with Gascoyne food,” he said.
“The semi-arid tropical climate is perfect for rangelands meats, seafood and fresh produce including juicy and flavourful tomatoes, crunchy capsicums and the sweetest bananas in Australia.” Picture: Andrew Ritchie
“I invite everyone in Perth to come down, sample some great Gascoyne food and support our local farmers.”
In addition to Sunday’s event a Farm Direct Popup Market will also be held from July 1-7, where shoppers will be able to pick up their favourite fresh seasonal produce in preparation for the Gascoyne Food Festival in August.
