Split-level best for flow

Western Suburbs Weekly - - Residential -

WHILE homes in the Subi Centro area are not on large blocks, they are cleverly designed to provide plenty of indoor and outdoor spaces.

This home was built by Don Russell Homes in 2007 and while it is on a 174sq m block, it has 284sq m of living space over two floors and four levels, plus a 63sq m undercroft garage with built-in storage.

The owners bought it in 2011. “We were attracted to the unique split-level design, which makes the house flow so well,” they said. “There is a great amount of space and different living areas and the central timber and steel balustraded staircase achieves separate, but connected, light and spacious areas.”

The home has three internal living areas.

At the street-level entry there is a theatre room and spacious foyer that opens to a light-filled courtyard.

This is a gorgeous space, enhanced by the owners’ addition of vertical gardens and a water feature, while retractable awnings make it a beautiful indoor/outdoor room on summer days.

The staircase leads up to a level with an open-plan living/dining area and kitchen with stone benchtops and high-end stainless-steel appliances.

This living area opens to a north-facing balcony, also with a retractable awning.

There is a sitting room/study on the first floor, near the master bedroom with walk-in robe, ensuite with bath and double vanity unit, and two balconies: one looking over the courtyard and the other looking out to the street.

The owners said the master suite was a “real sanctuary; very private, quiet and light-filled”.

The staircase leads up to two more bedrooms, with built-in robes, and a bathroom with floor-to-ceiling tiling.

When the owners bought the home they wanted an inner-city lifestyle and were attracted to the Subi Centro neighbourhood with its lake at Subiaco Common.

“We have enjoyed the beautiful park on our doorstep,” they said.

“The sense of community brings people out and we have made wonderful friends with our neighbours and their dogs.

“We also love the ability to walk to restaurants and shops and the convenience to Subiaco, West Perth, downtown and UWA.”
