SLEEPING well allows us to function in top shape and helps the body grow and repair.

However, 10 per cent of Australians suffer with insomnia, says Sleep Matters clinical psychologist Dr Melissa Ree.

“Insomnia can have a very negative impact on life, health, relationships and work,” she said.

“Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) is a nondrug treatment that addresses the factors maintaining long-term insomnia and produces more long-lasting improvements than sleep medications.

“It is the treatment with the strongest evidence and is the recommended first-line treatment over medication.”
