Spring into action
MALCOLM Day did not know anyone who had battled breast cancer before he became chairman of Breast Cancer Care WA (BCCWA) in 2004.
“Since then, I’ve had family and friends touched by breast cancer and unfortunately some haven’t made it through the journey,” Mr Day said.
The Kings Park resident and partner Sophie Kerrigan are frocking up for the not-for-profit group’s annual Spring Day at the Races which will be supported by Perth fashion labels Jonte, Halo the Label, Keiko Uno and Jessica Bratich.
Ms Kerrigan will pamper guests with Arbonne products on the day, with 35 per cent of make-up sales going to BCCWA. The make-up artist said she was looking forward to the fashion.
“Everyone goes above and beyond,” she said.
“There’s a lot of bright colours like red and yellow on trend at the moment.”
Mr Day said Spring Day at the Races was one of BCCWA’S main fundraising events of the year.
“The charity doesn’t get any government funding so we rely on the generosity of the WA public to do what we do. We help over 1000 clients a year, providing emotional, practical and financial help to people going through breast cancer and their families,” he said.
The couple will follow up Spring Day at the Races by attending Suited for Melbourne Cup, which is Mr Day’s birthday.
